Development: 70 residential apartments Reports to: Property Manager
About the Role
We are recruiting for a hardworking, proactive and hands-on Day Porter to join a residential development in Woolwich, comprising approximately 70 apartments.
This is a varied position combining traditional porter and concierge responsibilities with practical building duties, including refuse management, communal inspections, general upkeep and resident assistance.
This is a physically demanding role, particularly when it comes to refuse and bin management, so we are looking for someone who is physically fit, reliable and genuinely happy to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.
Key Responsibilities
Porter Duties & Refuse Management
- Take responsibility for the movement and rotation of large communal refuse bins, including transporting heavy bins approximately 100 metres to designated collection points.
- Ensure bins are presented for collection, returned and rotated appropriately, with sufficient empty bins available for residents.
- Maintain clean and tidy bin storage areas, addressing overflowing waste, fly-tipping and general refuse issues.
- Carry out regular litter picking across communal areas, external spaces and car parks.
- Assist residents with luggage, parcels, deliveries and other general porter duties.
- Undertake light cleaning and general housekeeping tasks to maintain high presentation standards throughout the development.
Building Inspections & Maintenance
- Conduct daily inspections of communal areas, identifying and reporting maintenance issues, damage or potential hazards.
- Ensure reception, entrances, corridors and shared facilities remain clean, tidy and presentable.
- Report building defects, plumbing, lighting and other maintenance concerns to the Property Manager.
- Assist with basic maintenance tasks where appropriate and within competency.
- Coordinate contractor access and monitor works taking place on site.
- Support routine health and safety checks, including fire safety inspections and reporting.
Resident Services & Front of House
- Act as the main point of contact for residents, visitors and contractors, providing a friendly and professional service.
- Manage incoming parcels, deliveries and post, ensuring items are securely stored and distributed.
- Respond promptly to resident enquiries and requests, escalating matters where necessary.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence at reception during designated hours.
- Assist with general administrative duties, maintaining accurate records and updating resident communications.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience as a Porter, Caretaker, Estate Operative, Building Assistant or hands-on Concierge within a residential development or similar environment.
- Physically fit and comfortable undertaking regular manual tasks, including moving large, heavy refuse bins using appropriate equipment and safe handling procedures.
- A proactive, hardworking attitude with a genuine willingness to get involved in all aspects of building operations.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional and approachable manner.
- Reliable, punctual and organised, with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communicating with residents, contractors and property management teams.
The Ideal Candidate
We are particularly interested in candidates from a hands-on caretaking or porter background who enjoy a mixture of practical duties and resident interaction.
This role would suit someone who takes pride in maintaining a residential building, isn’t afraid of physical work and can confidently manage the day-to-day responsibilities of a site independently.
A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck in are essential.
