If you’re considering working in residential property and thinking about becoming a Concierge, here’s our list of the top 5 qualities of a successful Concierge.
1. Communication
Communication is King. As a concierge, as well as dealing with residents and their guests, you will work alongside the building manager, other concierges, cleaners, caretakers, security persons and outside contractors; all with the same end goal in mind – to best service residents. When it comes to communication, active listening, confidence and non-verbal communication should all be considered. For more on this, have a read of our earlier post on key communication skills.
2. High spirits
Being in high-spirits when working in a customer-facing environment is so important. Naturally, we all have off days but being approachable and able to put a smile on your face will be more appreciated than you know by residents and the team around you.
3. Empathy
To be empathetic means to show an ability to understand and share the feelings of another. As a concierge, putting yourself in the position of a resident whose parcel has been misplaced or whose neighbour is causing disruption will help you to manage the situation most effectively and gain respect in the process.
4. Flexibility
Things don’t always go to plan, meaning a flexible approach and understanding that as a concierge, it’s your job to put residents first, is vital. Consider the importance of delivering a handover at the end of your shift, for example. Demonstrating that you understand the consequences of not carrying out your handover and remaining on site until cover is found is a sure way to show your commitment.
5. Professionalism
Our clients expect their concierges to deliver the highest standards of customer service. With this comes the expectation that will have a full grasp of your building’s procedures and show respect and patience towards residents and your peers.
