More than 70% of recruiters used LinkedIn. Needless to say, if you’re looking for a new opportunity then now is the time to get on this platform and polish your profile!  Below we’ve suggested tweaks you can make to appear in more searches and ultimately boost your chances of securing your next role:

How Recruiters Search on LinkedIn

First off, it helps to understand how recruiters search on LinkedIn. To do this, think about how you would search on job boards (e.g. Indeed, Reed, Caterer etc.). Typically you would search by job title or sector, skill and location, right? The same goes for recruiters. Using LinkedIn Recruiter (a platform for finding, connecting with, and managing candidates), recruiters will search by:

  • Profession or job title
  • Skills
  • Location
  • Education
  • Current or former employers

This means completing your profile should be on the top of your to-do list!

Keywords Keywords Keywords

Maximise the use of keywords that employers will search for. If you’re unsure what these might be, review your ideal job descriptions and highlight key words and phrases from here.

As an example, if you’re looking for your next concierge opportunity, common keywords in these job descriptions will include: residential property, concierge, front of house, customer service, strong communication, teamwork, management etc. You’ll also want to include any widely used industry-based acronyms such as IOSH and names of software that you have experience of using, such as when you log parcels in.

Staying Active

Make sure to keep your profile up-to-date, “like” relevant industry articles and if you’re feeling adventurous, write and publish your own. Lastly, head over to your profile and on your dashboard under “Career interests”, you’ll see the option to “Let recruiters know you’re open [to new opportunities]”. Turn this on!
