A job search can be a daunting and all consuming task, but it doesn’t have to be. Think of it as the first step to making a positive change and an opportunity to grow.
Create a routine
Establish when you’re most productive and set this time aside to focus solely on your job search.
Make a plan of all the tasks that relate to your search such as updating your CV or LinkedIn profile, or shortlisting opportunities, and prioritise them.
Track your progress and follow up with Recruiters and Hiring Managers. While there might not be a vacancy now or you might not be the right fit for the current vacancy, keeping in contact and building relationships along your journey is a good way to stay top of mind.
Manageable goals
Be realistic about the amount of time you can allocate to your search. An hour a day over the course of a week adds up! And think quality over quantity, setting a sensible weekly goal for the number of applications you can make while still tailoring them.
Positive self-talk
Success doesn’t happen overnight. Be your biggest cheerleader, and appreciate the small wins, whether that’s making an application or being invited to interview.
Focus on what you CAN do. Talk yourself up! As per stats from the National Science Foundation, 80% of our 12,000 – 50,000 daily thoughts are negative. Don’t fall into this trap!
Make time for yourself
Make time to decompress and take your mind off the search, surrounding yourself with family and friends, with positive people, who’ll lift your spirits and remind you of how far you’ve come.
